Suggest Treatment For Mood Instability After Traumatic Brain Injury
For head trauma victims we have had success with Topamax
Detailed Answer:
Good evening. I am an adult neurologist and do quite a bit of work with Traumatic Brain Injury patients suffering their injuries through military duty.
I have read all of your questions to other colleagues who have given you many good suggestions for both mood stabilizers as well as OCD medications. Ultimately of course, it's really a matter for your physicians who are treating to decide on the best option for you given all the balance of clinical information, labs, and tests that we don't have access to.
Having said that, however, I can tell you that in my TBI patients in whom we are choosing an agent for mood stabilization that does not risk weight gain I have had very good success with TOPIRAMATE (Topamax). There is a limiting side effect having to do with tingling sensations but we usually bring symptoms under control before that happens in most people. There is a lot of anecdotal evidence that Topiramate aids some people lose substantial amounts of weight as well.
You would still be advised to choose an SSRI such as Zoloft or Prozac for your symptoms of OCD.
I hope this answer satisfactorily addresses your question. If so, may I ask your favor of a HIGH STAR RATING with written feedback?
Also, if there are no other questions or comments, I'd appreciate it greatly if you would CLOSE THE QUERY on your end so this question can be transacted and archived for further reference by colleagues as necessary.
Please direct more comments and questions to me in the future at:

All the best.
