Suggest Treatment For Motor Neuron Disease
Question: Hello, My father is 65 now. He's been diagnosed lately with MND. His voice is completly gone and he's facing problem while walking,eating also....Kindly advise if there is any cure for MND that can be tried to atleast get his voice back...

Motor neurone disease is a serious neurodegenerative disorder which affects the motor neurons of the brain and spinal cord that transfer signals from the brain to the muscles in the body. Hence in this disease movement is impaired.
Though the symptoms can be managed with palliative therapy, there is no cure to the disease.
The symptoms involve uncontrollable twitching, stiffness of muscles , difficulty in speaking and swallowing and in severe conditions difficulty in breathing.
Gradually muscles begin to weaken and wasting occurs making symptoms worse.
Kindly ask your doctor regarding the medicine Riluzole, as it is the medication with better survival chances as it slows down the damage of motor neuron cells.
For difficulty in swallowing a treatment that can benefit patients percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy tube.
For speaking, if the patient has lost the voice completely , assisted aids like speech generating devices for communicating with others are available.
However, I regret if lost permanently, the voice cannot be regained. For those whose voice has got not got damaged completely, speech therapy is advised.
About stem cell therapy still research is going out but there is no cure for this as of now.
You can try out additional therapy/ complimentary therapies like massages (provided it is authorised) , meditation and relaxation techniques .

Kindly consult an XXXXXXX regarding Semen Analysis . You will be able to know if your sperm count is normal or not.
Even after medications if your wife is not concieving , kindly consult a gynaecologist and get an ultrasound abdomen done to find out any gynaecological problems. Also her hormonal levels especially Thyroid profile and Gonadal hormone levels have to be tested.
Ask the gynaecologist regarding Invitro fertilisation techniques (Test tube baby) as other options for concieving.
