Suggest Treatment For Movable Lump Under Chin

Question: my son has a marble sized mass under his chin toward neck. It is movable and solid but not painful what could this be It is not situated on the lymphnodes as it is in the middle not on either sides

Hi,

I find your son to be 20 yrs. Is it? Does he smoke or use drugs? I am sorry do not mean to offend anyone trying to get things clearly. Unfixed solid masses need investigation.

There are number of reasons for mid line masses in the neck. Of which Thyroglossal cyst, submental lymphnodes fits for the description that you gave. The thyroglossal cyst moves when the tongue is stuck out. If this is not moving then it could be submental lymph node. If lymph node why does these lymph nodes enlarge in your son's case is the question?. If there is some malady in the lower lip, apex of the tongue or floor of the mouth these lymph nodes enlarge.

So it is prudent to get this tested with a local primary care provider and if necessary Ultrasound of the mass is good.

I think this should give you a decent idea what to do next?

he never smoked or does not fo drugs. he is a weight lifter and takes suppliments such as protein powder prework out and creatine but not steroids

OK since he does not have high risk behavior the problem seems to be minor.

My previous answer holds good. Please see a PCP and get ultrasound done.
