Suggest Treatment For Mucinous Cystadenomas And Endometriosis

Question: Hi, I have a question on mucinous cystadenomas. I happen to have recurrent endometriosis and mucinous cystadenomas on both ovaries, and have gone though laproscopies to have them removed in the past. The cystadenomas have grown so big, that they had to be removed almost like an emergency. Since my last laproscopy however, I have been free from both endometriosis recurrence and cystadenomas. However, my latest scan now shows two endometriomas on my right ovary and a para-ovarian cyst. Can you please let me know if a para-ovarian cyst can resolve on its own? I have a bad feeling that it is in some way related or can infect and morph into a mucinous cystadenoma? Tahnks a lot for your help! Any information will help me seek the right treatment.. :)

Welcome to healthcare magic. I understand your concern. I am sorry for your condition.

In my opinion Mucinous cystadenomas form the major part of ovarian tumors and most of them are benign. They are seen between 3rd to 5th decade. And with surgery the results are excellent. So recurrence is rare.

Endometriomas are the recurrence of endometriosis. The recurrence of endometriosis is common in 10 to 25% after surgery. Medical treatment with hormones combined with surgery might decrease the recurrence rate so discuss regarding that with your doctor.

Small paraovarian cysts are seen routinely in a few woman and cause no symptoms so no treatment is required. They grow to large size in a few and undergo torsion and in such cases surgery might be needed.

Some paraovarian cysts might transform to serous cystadenomas(these are also benign tumors of ovary). But malignant transformation of paraovarian cysts is rare.

The benign and malignant nature of cyst can be differentiated on ultrasound.

So you need not worry. Mucinous transformation of paraovarian cysts doesn't occur. And Mucinous tumors due to there excellent results after surgery they might not recur.

So just relax.

Hello dear,I got your query.It is good to hear from you again.
In my opinion paraovarian cysts doesn't arise from the ovary but they are present in between the ovary and fallopian tube.They are not related to ovary but just present by the side of ovary.
They are seen mostly between 30 to 50 years of age woman.They are accidentally detected during ultrasound or surgery done for another purpose.They are mistaken for follicular cysts of ovary.
The small paraovarian cysts are mostly between 1cm to 10cm diameter and cause no symptoms and left without any treatment.
But a few grow upto 30cm and cause symptoms like pain and torsion.
If the cyst is growing in size or causing symptoms then it is to be operated.
They may or may not spontaneously resolve but they can be monitored with ultrasound for any increase in size.Otherwise the small ones are not troublesome.
