Suggest Treatment For Mucus Retention In Throat

Posted on Thu, 30 Apr 2015
Question: hello I have been suffering from mucus retention in my throat. I find it difficult to swallow this mucus causing me to cough and sometimes gag. This happens particularly when I am lying down. Mucus is white or clear in color most times unless I have a sore throat then it is thick and yellowish. I have been using Biosolvon ( supposedly dissolves mucus ) but this hasn't been helping particularly. This symptom occurs periodically.
I take avapro for blood pressure and dimacron and diabex fo diabetes and parriet. I am 70 years old.

Brief Answer:
Needs slight care, easily manageable

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. This mucus retention is a common ailment mostly a sequelae of a sore throat, a post nasal drip or a recent cold. Acid reflux also causes these symptoms. Anti diabetics and anti hypertensives also worsen it due to dryness of mouth and thus thickening the secretions.

All you need is some mucolytics, some aspirin and garlic water mouth gargles, drink plenty of fluids and keep the head side of the bed elevated when lying down to prevent the mucus symptoms.

I hope it helps. take good care of yourself and dont forget to close the discussion please.

Khan
