But swelling is still the same on the below ear, jaw and neck. How long it take to subsidise. We are very worried. My wife's age is 33 years and had no previous history of any disease. Please guide us. What type of diet is required..
Brief Answer:
Please dont worry!!
Detailed Answer:
Hello
First thing i would like to know is who diagnosed it as mumps? as it is rare for a person to get mumps at this age , since it is common in children.
I would like to know her symptoms and if the swelling is on one side or both?
If it is mumps , then you dont have to worry and you should continue your medications as it will take generally 7-10 days for the swelling to subside!
You can ask her to take a normal diet with lots of fluids but just to avoid sour food like lemon , tamrind etc.
She can also use a hexidine mouth wash , to help maintain her oral hygiene.
Thanks

Thanks for your early reply. Her swelling is on both sides with tenderness near her ears. As compared to first two or three days of its occurrence, her pain is less. Now he is taking ibugesic plus only thrice a day instead of early five to six times a day. Is we require to continue antibiotic and for how many days. She is also feeling pain while chewing. Our 1 year two months son is also on breastfeeding. How to save him from this contagious disease.
Brief Answer:
Mumps is a correct diagnosis!
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Please dont worry mumps will take around 7-10 days to resolve , and she will do fine
Actually there is no need for the antibiotics at present since it looks like mumps , however i would still like you to continue them as we dont want another super added bacterial infection to come !!
She should finish the course of augmentin and take it for 7 days!!
Your child should have been immunized for mumps by now and it is unlikely that he will get the infection from her so you dont have to worry.
The pain while chewing is typical of a parotid swelling as seen in mumps and will resolve once the infection subsides.
Please ask her to take rest and drink lots of fluids.
Thanks
