Suggest Treatment For Muscle Cramps In The Leg
Question: Hi. I was awakened by a cramp in my left inner thigh radiating down my leg. The cramp lasted only for a minute but I now have a swelling of my ankle on the same side. Elevation is not dramatically helping and I still have a funny sensation in that leg. What could this be? Other that elevagion, what should I do? Thanks.
Brief Answer:
Impaired blood flow to consider.
Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HealthcareMagic,
I have read your question and understand your concerns.
One of the possible causes of leg cramps is impairment of leg blood flow and supply since there is swelling too.
Conditions that may impair blood flow to the leg include peripheral artery disease, deep veins thrombosis, etc.
So, besides elevation of the leg, an evaluation by your primary care Doctor about these conditions and a Doppler ultrasound of the leg is necessary to get a correct diagnosis.
Hope you found the answer helpful. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care.
