Suggest Treatment For Muscle Spasm In Right Shoulder And Arm

default
Posted on Mon, 1 Jun 2015
Question: I have had muscle spasm in right shoulder, then pain in entire right arm, moved to chest and left arm for about 3 weeks. Right arm is weak and I am having jerky movements when I turn my wrist. It was very painful and yesterday the pain has subsided to a dull ache. Clicking in bones and stiff movement in wrist and arm today. Left foot began to spasm last night. spasms are not painful but as if something is crawling around inside of my arm and foot. I did injure my arm approx 6 months ago and I thought it had healed although my strength had diminished. I also contracted Lymes disease about 2 years ago.

Brief Answer:
Tests needed to properly diagnose your condition.

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

In my opinion, two different conditions should be evaluated as possible causes of your concerns.

Most important one is probably neurologic and joints complications of Lyme disease.

This condition could happen months or even years after first Lyme infection and explains your symptoms such muscle stiffness, weakness and spasms, joint clicking.

The preferred test to assess chronic Lyme arthritis and chronic neurologic symptoms, is Polimerase Chain Reaction (PCR).
This test helps in detecting bacterial DNA in fluids collected by a infected joint or cerebrospinal fluid.

If proved by test, recurrent Lyme needs another round of antibiotics treatment (Amoxicillin, Cefuroxime, eg.)

Another condition that needs evaluation, regarding to your injured arm and post injury weakness, may be related to arm or cervical nerves damage. This condition needs a nerve conduction study (EMG) to be confirmed or excluded.

Since the tests I mentioned and the treatment need prescription, I suggest you to discuss with your treating Doctor about them.

Hope I helped you to understand better your condition.
I remain at your disposal for further questions or clarifications.

Wishing you good health.
