Suggest Treatment For Nasal Congestion And Headache
Few months back i suffered from severe nasal congestion and head ache. ENT doctor told me that i have nasal septal deviation. I got septoplasty and FESS 2 months back. I suffered congestion even after that, and i was told that it is because of allergy, so doctor gave me some sprays - now im using floresp and some tablets too like nukast (initially), largy-m(now) etc.. I feel better in the initial days of the medicines. But after using these for sometime (1 month), im getting congestion even though i use the tablets and sprays. And then i go to my doctor, he gives a new tablet, but same thing is happening after some time
I have a healthy & stressfree life style. I go gym every day and run 3-5km twice a week.
why are the medicines not working after sometime? Am i supposed to keep on changing tablets every month? What is the solution for this repeating congestion?
Review CT and Second opinion
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Thanks for your query and an elucidate history. I would like to ask you some information before I try to answer your query.
Was CT scan PNS ( Nose and sinuses) done before / after Surgery? Have you taken a second opinion ( of another ENT Surgeon) ?
You have already gone through septopalsty and FESS and taken medicines as you have noted.
The most probable reason for nasal congestion in such cases lies in the fact that you may have a part of the DNS which can not be corrected if it is near the roof ( not done to avoid collapse of the nose above the tip as a late complication. Another probable reason is engorgement of the Turbinates, the masses which are normally present in all noses. They can get engorged for various reason like allergic rhinitis and / or Vaso-motor rhinitis. The Vasomotor rhinitis is an exaggerated response to various factors including changes in temperature, stress and so on ( you have said you are healthy and have a stress-free life style).
This can be confirmed by a few things:
Second opinion of another ENT Surgeon of repute with name in Nasal Surgery.
Review CT scan and correlation of the CT, its reports with the clinical picture and clinical findings.
Test with few other medicines which your another ENT Surgeon may prescribe, which may contain an anxiolytic; this helps in many of my patients.
So these are few reasons that you are having a recurrence of the symptoms and inability of the medicines to help you at the moment. Yes, it is possible that you may need another corrective surgery or change of medicines frequently as per the situations.
Please follow the guidelines to find the real reason and get treated accordingly.
