Suggest Treatment For Nasal Congestion While Having Cold

Thanking you for advise
Sounds like a cold.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for your query.
I'm Dr. Shuba Hariprasad and will be answering your query today.
It sounds like you are coming down with a cold.
Do you have any other symptoms? (cough, headache on one side, throat pain, fever?)
Fexofenadine is an antihistamine and can relieve a runny nose.
Vapor rub can relieve congestion and help you breathe easier (downside is it causes rebound congestion - once it's effects wear off the nose feels more congested than before.
Rhinecort only relieves allergic symptoms and is not indicated in a common cold.
My recommendations:
- stay well hydrated
-clear your nose whenever you can (gently and one nostril at a time)
-steam inhalations thrice a day. You may rub some vapor rub on the rim of the inhaler so as to let those fumes clear your sinuses.
-keep your sleep environment moist. Use a regular face mask (like the ones doctors wear) or a thin handkerchief to cover your nose and mouth, in order to keep the aire you breathe moist.
-fexofenadine may be take one a day but do stop once you runny nose eases up. This can dry up your throat and secretions and make it difficult to clear the phlegm
-this should heal on its own within 7-10 days.
If you have fever (more than a 100f)for more than 2days, have severe throat pain, ear pain, headache, have heart disease, or it lasts more than 10 days, see you physician for antibiotic therapy.
Hope I've helped.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
Regards,
Dr. Shuba Hariprasad
