Suggest Treatment For Nasal Drainage Along With Cough

Nasal drainage with cough
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for contacting HCM with your health care questions.
You are being bothered by a constant post nasal drip and will a persistent cough as a result of the drainage. You have already tried saline nasal sprays and also using nasal cort a nasal steroid spray. These are frequently used for the treatment of allergic or perennial nasal congestion and drainage. The next thing you could try is either a nasal antihistamine called Astelin. This may help reduce the drainage but can also cause very dry nasal membranes and nasal bleeding. Another option is Atrovent nasal spray. This is a nasal spray made from atropine that reduces the production of nasal mucus. It does work but it can also cause nasal bleeding a dry mouth.
In your list of medications I notice you have hypertension therefore you can not use any of the over the counter decongestants like phenylephrine or any nasal spray decongestants as these medication can cause elevated blood pressure.
In my patient they can also get relief with salt water gargles. A small cup with warm water and salt gargled and spit out help sooth the back of the throat. It will help wash off the mucus and clear the back of you throat from the constant dip.
One last option is using a robitussin DM product or a cough suppressant with a mucolytic. This will help reduce the cough and reduce the thickness of the drainage.
In summary
1. Astelin nasal spray antihistamine
2. Atrovent nasal spray atropine
3. Robitussin DM cough suppressant and mucolytic
4. Avoid decongestants
5. plenty of fluids and rest
6. Salt water gargles every hour as needed

Medication allergies cause systemic effects
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for returning to HCM with your health care questions.
Your medications would not cause only nasal congestion drainage and cough. Medications would cause a whole body response which would be a generalized rash, nausea, vomiting or swelling. A local response to the nasal passages is limited to something only affecting your nose. The most likely causes is allergic rhinitis, perennial rhinitis, sinusitis, or recurrent upper respiratory infection
