Suggest Treatment For Nausea And Fever

Question: My husband thought he needed a bowel movement at 3AM. He did not, sat in living room and felt nauseous. He went to bed and then vomited. Afterwards he asked for cold cloth for head and I gave him some ice chips. Then he got extremely cold. I covered him with several quilts and turned on small heater by bed. By morning he was hot. He has not wanted food or drinks. He is 78 years old. Had phlebotomy Friday because of Polycythemia-vera. Hemotocrit is at 52.3. Diabetic. Slightly increased blood pressure. What's wrong and should we take him to emergency. Hate that on a holiday, he is not a patient man.
Brief Answer:
What is his temperature and blood pressure!
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I am so sorry to hear about the sick state of your husband. I will need a few more details from you to tell whether he needs a trip to the emergency room right away of not.
1. Can you measure and report his temperature, loo pressure and blood sugar levels to me?
2. Has he been able to drink anything today, be it very little?
3. Is he having any difficulties with urination? breathing? walking around the house?
I hope to hear from you. Based on these, I will determine whether he needs to make that trip sooner, later or maybe not at all.

Blood pressure is 118/71 which is good for him. glucose is 167 non fasting but he has eaten very little (5 or 6 spoons of chicken noodle soup) temp is 99.2. He has had very little to drink today: about 8 to 10 oz. Normally he stays hydrated. His urine is normal except the color seems darker than usual. He uses a walker, but is too weak to get out of bed at this time. Thank you, XXXXXXX
Brief Answer:
Emergency visit not recommended at this time!
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX and thanks for these added details and precision.
I have reviewed this information fully. I will not recommend an immediate visit to the hospital at this time. Continue to encourage him to drink more water and eat a little more. I believe he would regain his strength. If this however persists or fever sets in, at that time we must seek to get him evaluated at a hospital.
The dark urine signifies insufficient fluids intake. Continue to encourage him to drink more.
I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to follow up with me if need be.

Thank you for your response. At 3AM this morning he vomited and I did not take his temp. because his head was burning up so I called EMS. His pulse was so high they took him to Borgess Medical Center which deals with heart issues. The hospital ran tests and discovered 2 kidney stones. They inserted a stent because he has a serious infection that has spread throughout his body and the doctor wants the infection cleared up before any proceedures. They will treat the infection and in 2 weeks will remove the kidney stones. I understand you can't possibly diagnose some situations without actually seeing the patient. Respectfully yours, XXXXXXX
