Posted on Thu, 20 Apr 2017
Question: Hi- i have finally been diagnosed with TMJ disorder (chronic) they orginally thought it was sinus but i went to a ENT and they were clear. My symptoms are:
Neck pain
Temple pain
Scalp pain
Back of head pain
Sore jaw
Sore face
Feeling out of it
Sometimes visual blurr
Sore ears where joint meets
My question is - what can do to treat this ? I have a mouth splint in which i have had for a month now to fasten up healing ? Seems to be improving but definetely not going away. Is there something else i can do ? I am booked in to see an osteo this week to see if they can help. I have also done excercises each day to help. And use a heat pack at night. Please help

Brief Answer:
Oral muscle relaxants can help.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
TMJ disorder is usually treated with pain killers hot compress and physiotherapy. if all these measures are not helping then you can get stronger muscle relaxants prescribed by your orthopedician. in case there is any fluid collection in the joint- can be diagnosed after MRi scan- then local steroid injections or arthroscopic technique can help. This can be decided only after a direct examination.
I hope this answers your query.

Depends on severity.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
it depends on the severity of your problem. Oral muscle relaxants will decrease the stiffness and will help you feel better. inflammation will reduce gradually.

Brief Answer:
Nurofen will help.

Detailed Answer:
Nurofen can help in decreasing the swelling. Taking turmeric will also help. But if the swelling persists then do consult an orthopedic for proper medicines.
