Suggest Treatment For Neck Pain In An Elderly Person

Question: I woke up with severe neck on both sides of my neck. No injuries or head trauma. However, I do mild workouts at the local gym the 5 weekdays. Pain is most severe when I lift my head, and lessens when I lower my head. I may have slept wrong, but haven't had this severe neck pain, ever! I am 69 years old and in otherwise excellent health. Help???
Brief Answer:
Muscular aches more likely...
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
There are more than one reasons for neck pain. However since you woke up with pain (acute onset), I presume this is more likely a muscular ache. Yes, it's probably due to wrong sleeping position.
I will suggest you to try pain medications available over the counter if you are not allergic to them or have history of gastritis. In addition, try topical pain relieving agents as well as warm compresses. I expect you to get better in a few days.
In case this pain is severe or if it persists for days, you may visit a doctor for examination.
Hope this helps. Let me know if you need clarifications.
Regards
