Suggest Treatment For Neck Sprain Along With Heaviness And Pulling Sensation In Head

default
Posted on Tue, 14 Jul 2015
Question: Hello Doctor,
My Mother has been observing the following symptoms in last 3-4 weeks:

1) Neck Sprain
2) Heavy head
3) Some kind of nerve pulling sensation in the head which occurs every now and then.

She has consulted Doctor XXXXXXX Sekhar XXXXXXX (Medicine specialist) on 4th XXXXXXX and continued the medicine as advised for nearly 10 days. Did not help much though the neck sprain is not there now.

on 22nd she consulted Dr. XXXXXXX Rath (Neuro Surgeon) and did CT scan, x-ray and blood test as reommended by him (Attching the report herewith).
Dr. Rath has adviced to take below medicines:
1.Ramister H5
2.Delcon
3. Open oz
4. Clery 200

She has been continuing the above medicine since past 5 days. She finds it very difficult to get sleep with these symptoms. While she is still intolerable with the nerve pulling/pinching sensesation in her head and heavy head, i have the following queries:

Questions:
1) What could possibly be the root cause from the report?
2) Could it be a problem related to ENT?
3) If she has to further consult any other doctor which specialist do you recommend?

Kindly suggest.

Thanks,
XXXX

Brief Answer:
Neurosurgeon or orthopedician

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome to healthcaremagic,

1) The prescription of your doctor is quite illegible but I guess your doctor suspects cervical spondylosis. He also mentions that her sinuses are tender to touch which is probably because she has sinus infection. Sinus infection can cause heaviness of head, but will not cause the pulling sensation that she describes. The CT of the brain , haematology and Biochemistry is normal. She probably needs a CT of the neck, talk to your doctor.

2) The heaviness of her head is probably due to sinus infection , hence it is ENT related. But the rest of the symptoms that you described are not ENT related. Sinus infections will respond well to a course of antitbiotics, penicillin group of antibiotics are preferred. Also she can use decongestant nose drops like otrivin (oxymetazoline). These drops help to ventilate the sinuses and help in control of sinus infection. She should instil 3 drops in each nostril 3 times a day for 6 days and follow it with steam inhalation.

3) The right speciality for her would be neurosurgery or orthopaedics. see an orthopaedic doctor for her neck problems
