The persistent tightness in the neck is due to abnormal neck posture and less flexibility of the neck muscles. It is best to avoid using any pillow and improvise your posture while watching TV or working on computer. You need to do some neck isometric exercises regularly to maintain the strength of your neck muscles so that the problem is not recurrent.
If you cannot avoid using a pillow then you should use a very thin and soft pillow of thickness not more than 2 inches.
