Suggest Treatment For Nerve Damage In The Wrists
Question: Hello,
I had an emg test done and my primary care doctor has me going to see a hand specialist. He mentioned I had nerve damage in both wrists. I have an appointment with the hand specialist but I would like to know if surgery is most common, I wake up in very very bad pain every morning and cannot even move my fingers due to the pain.

Brief Answer:
Carpal tunnel syndrome. Needs surgery
Detailed Answer:
Hi there.
Thanks for the query.
It is pertinent that you have Carpal tunnel syndrome where the median nerves are compressed at the wrists and leads to pain, tingling or numbness in the palm.
Usually Nerve conduction velocity study should reveal problem with the median nerve, then it is confirmatory of the diagnosis.
Treatment includes conservative and surgical management.
Surgically the tight Transverse carpal ligament is released to free the nerve. This can be done by open, XXXXXXX open and endoscopic technique.
I hope I have answered your query.
I will be available to answer your follow up queries.

Thank You so much for the information. I was wondering before I have the surgery and after I have the surgery will they give me something other than just Tylenol or Advil because they are not working now and I need some pain relief. I do take Suboxone and was wondering if that will pose a problem. I take a 4mg suboxone every morning and it helps for what it is prescribed for but doesn't help with this awful pain. My family will be there for me to give me anything for pain I wont have control of the medicine, I'm just worried about the pain I'm going to experience.

Detailed Answer:
Once the surgery is done you will experience good relief and may not need the opiate medication you are taking. It may be tired and stopped and you may be only on NSAIDS like Advil.
Medication like Pregabalin will be given to help in relieving nerve pain.
