Suggest Treatment For Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease

default
Posted on Sat, 25 Oct 2014
Question: I have been diagnosed with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease . At that time, I was barely into the BMI of obesity (last spring) which I have since receded out of but only down a little. I have come to believe the NAFLD is probably related to my being overweight so am starting once again to lose more weight. I also have been diagnosed with osteoarthritis at least 10 years ago and it has only worsened over the years but I don't feel I want to take meds for this altho I did take a prescription: 800 mg Fosamex (sp?) for about a yr back in 05-07 somewhere but as it began to bother my stomach mydoc advised Prolisec which I took but after reading that it could lead to heart probe (and maybe strokes?), I decided to go off both and amp up natural meds like ginger tabs, nettle, turmeric (also cooking more with it) and a B vit with extra folic acid as mine is very low as is my crp level (4.7 as of XXXXXXX 2013) and homocysteine (14). THis is probably way too much info, but I worry about what to do to not overload my fatty liver. Do you have any suggestions?

Brief Answer:
Non Alcoholic fatty liver disease.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thank you for asking Health care magic forum.
I have gone through your query.Non alcoholic fatty liver is widely seen in modern population due to sedentary life style and food habits.Even lack of vitamin is a reason.
Loosing weight if your weight is more is a good idea. The normal weight for you is the height in cm minus 100 plus or minus 5.Maintain in that level. You can do swimming jogging etc for that.Avoid polished grains and white bread.Consider using full grains and rye or whole wheat bread in diet. Can take vitamin B complex and vitamin E which is helpful also.Avoid red meat and choose lean meat and prefer more vegetables. It is also better to avoid tap water as it can contain heavy metals and pesticides which worsen fatty liver. You can choose bottled clean water or mineral water for drinking.Avoid stress. You can do breathing exercises to control stress.
Your homocysteine is in normal range.Have you checked your liver function test.It is better do that also to find out the functional condition of liver.Blood sugar level during fasting and post prandial also should be taken.
Hope this may help you.Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks

Your calculation for my normal weight didn't work for me: you said it would be my height in cm (I'm 65 inches tall and that is 167 cm apprx, but if I minus 100 from that and add/subtract 5, my ideal weight would only be 62 or 73 lbs.) Am I doing that correctly?
Also, my lab test on 4//of 2014 showed to be 5.7 for Hemoglobin Alc which I was told is right on the line for increased risk for future diabetes and my fasting glucose was 88 at that time. Is the functional condition of liver in these 2 tests? ALT and AST? If so, they tested at 22 each. My doc also sent me to a hepatologist who had my labs and doc's opinion and then talked to me about liver disease and said something about mine probably being hereditary and to calmly tell the other blood women relatives to be chk'd at some point but she didn't tell me much as to what to do about it but exercise and eat carefully. She had her PA examine me for any swelling around liver which there was none. She told me I really didn't need to come back to her unless I wanted to.
Is that all there is to do with it? I also have read that it is quite likely to be accompanied with metabolic syndrome which I'm kind of confused as to what that is and how to treat it.
You can probably tell that this whole rather ambiguous condition is causing me some stress and I did like and will do your advice about breathing and learning more of how to do that so that I can benefit from it.
Thank you so much, tho, for your help and any more info you can tell me.

Brief Answer:
About ideal weight? Metabolic syndrome?

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thank you for your follow up query.
The appropriate weight for you i recommended is not in lbs but in kg(kilogram). Your liver function is good if it is 22 each. Metabolic syndrome is a condition which risks for diabetes. It is characterized by excess body fat distribution abnormal cholesterol level and a high blood pressure. Even fatty liver also a constituent of metabolic syndrome.
Only life style modification and diet is the management for this. Breathing exercise is done by sit relaxed and take deep breath as long as possible and slowly exhale. When you do that it send signals to brain to calm down and relax which is good for stress management.
Hope this may help you.Let me know if any thing unclear.
thanks
