Suggest Treatment For Non Healing Cut In The Vaginal Region

default
Posted on Wed, 22 Jun 2016
Question: my razor slipped while shaving my vaginal region and made a small cut directly between my labia minor and majora. That was a month ago. The cut was about 3 mm long. Now it has extended to about an inch in length, so it's not healing but getting longer. What can I do? It's not overly red and there is no pus. Scar has tried to form and the moisture keeps sloughing the scarring off prematurely.

Brief Answer:
You should see a GYN doctor for evaluation for suturing

Detailed Answer:
Hello, and I hope I can help you today.

First, I want to thank you for providing images of your injury. I am sure it was not easy to feel comfortable posting the photo, but it really helps to make an accurate diagnosis.

You did get the cut in a very bad area, because the junction between your labia has a lot of pulling from the motion of your legs and your underwear.

First, I want you to try to see if it can heal on its own, but you must either not wear underwear or wear ones that are loose like boxer shorts to avoid your labia rubbing against each other. Second, you need to make sure the area stays well lubricated by applying antibiotic ointment (not cream) to the area at least twice daily. Try to wear loose fitting clothing and see if that helps. The area should be getting smaller by two weeks if this regimen works. If not, you may benefit from consulting with a gynecologist, who may need to suture the area closed temporarily until it heals.

During this time, also avoid any further shaving, and keep yourself clean with daily washing with soap and water.

I hope my advice helps you and that I was able to adequately answer your question today. If you need anything further, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Best wishes,

Dr. Brown
