Suggest Treatment For Numbness And Tingling Sensation In Arms With Tremors

default
Posted on Tue, 27 Oct 2015
Question: My husband has had episodes of numbness/tingling down both arms with the shakes in his hands (most predominately the right hand). Also has had a lot of pressure in his head with elevated blood pressure 138/96 and headaches. He also feels like he is on the edge or more nervous than normal with feelings of hot surges going throughout his body for no apparent reason...meaning no physical exertion when this happens. This has happened 3 days in a row since last Saturday, September 19 thru September 21. He hasn't had any more episodes since September 21. The first episode lasted about 20 minutes and the second episode lasted 40 minutes. We have had blood tests and everything is normal except that his bad cholestrol is 130 instead of below 100.

He has normal urination and defecation with no problems. However for the first time last night, he did get up 5 different times to urinate and he never gets up during the night to do this. Also he doesn't have any chronic illnessses of any kind such as diabetes. When these episodes happen, he does feel weak in his upper extremities (such as he has to shake his arms to try to keep them from falling asleep) and he has aching in his lower extremities or joints. He is very tired all the time.

Brief Answer:
Blood pressure control and observation.

Detailed Answer:
Hi xxxxxx,
Thanks for being in follow-up and providing further details.

Considering your clinical history,I suggest you to target your blood pressure control well and observe if the symptoms still persist.

If the symptoms recurs, then you may need to undergo a physical examination and evaluation including the investigations-possibly,cervical x-rays and blood sugar.

If you have any further questions,I shall be glad to have you in follow-up.

Regards
Dr.Ajay Panwar,

Thanks for your reply. We seen a cardiologist today and he is scheduled to have an echo, stress test, and calcium test next Thursday. He did have another episode Friday night and it was completely different symptoms. His left side of his chest was having some severe pain migrating up to his collar bone. This happened 4 times but one of those times were very severe. Hoping and praying to have answers as soon as these tests are run. If you have any more input, I would value your opinion.

Brief Answer:
This may be of cardiac origin.

Detailed Answer:
Hi xxxxx,
Thanks for being in follow-up.

This fresh episode,of course! is different from the previous ones.Cardiac origin must be ruled out.Its good that you already got the stress and echo done for him.Let me know about the results as well.

However, sometimes gastric origin(gastritis) or heart burn(due to reflux disease) may also present like this. Also, musculoskeletal pain may also mimic cardiac pain sometimes.

Please discuss with the treating doctor about these possibilities as well.
Good control of blood pressure should be ensured high BP may result in many vague symptoms.
