Today I've got Keraglo AD. Pls advice some thing to get rid of this this dandruff & itchy scalp, wheras hair texture & skin is dry. When I scratch some yellow powdery substance come in my nail, is this Psorasis. Shall be very grateful for your valuable advice :( thanx in anticipation.

Hi,
Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
If your hairfall is due to dandruff, you need to use Nizoral 2% shampoo (ketoconazole-antifungal)-over the counter .
You also need to undergo thyroid function tests like serum T3,T4 & TSH levels to exclude hypothyroidism as your skin is dry.
Psoriasis may involve the scalp and can cause hair fall.
You need to see a qualified dermatologist

Thanx Dr Buswas for your reply.... Pls note that i have thyroid since past 5 yrs & since my TSH ws hight i take Thyronorm 50 mg & its quite normal now. I user Niztol but that increased my itching. I got all my test done but excessive hair fall is due to sticky dandruff only, therefore you need to recommed some thing wlse probably my scalp is very sensitive & Nizrol has lot of SLS.

Hi,
Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
Avoid brushing and towel drying aggressively when the hair is wet.
Rule out polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) as it may cause androgenic alopecia (increase hair thinning or diffuse hair loss).A pelvic ultrasound is a major diagnostic tool.
Seborrheic dermatitis is a common, chronic disorder, characterized by greasy scales .The most common location is in the scalp, where it may be recognized as severe dandruff (sticky dandruff).Treatment with low-potency topical glucocorticoids in conjunction with a topical antifungal agent, such as ciclopirox cream, is often effective.
For obstinate dandruff-one can use terbinafine cream, and ciclopirox cream as they are effective in treating Malassezia infections (known to cause dandruff in adults )and are usually given for 2 weeks.
For extensive disease, itraconazole (200 mg/d) or fluconazole (200 mg/d) can be used for 5–7 days.
Discus with a consultant dermatologist.
