Suggest Treatment For Osteopenia

default
Posted on Sat, 18 Feb 2017
Question: Had a bone density DEXA test twice within a few years interval - both showed Osteopenia. On this site it says "...DEXA. It measures people’s spine, hip, or total-body bone density to help gauge their risk of fractures.' Both mine just measured my leg's - whichI do not find mentioned here. Is this because it was the less costly for the insurance company? So should I have my spine and hip tested for better diagnosis??

A month ago I fell on my left side and broke 9 & 10th ribs in front. In the last 3 years my bones/joints have been hurting and swelling and "crackling". A doctor told me the joint and crackling and pain is not Osteopenia nor Osteoporosis because those do not cause pain. He said Osteoarthritis causes pain.

I'd like to see how my bones, especially my spine is doing after this fall, which also I felt compress against my spine, and had much spasms, swelling, and pain in my back - more so than my ribs. They did not take x-rays of my back. Its now 4 weeks and I do feel better. Miraculous relief (and repair it seems) with Cold Laser Light Therapy 3x week - almost IMMEDIATE. Will continue that. (I've also done miraculously well with Chiropractic i the past where no medical doctor could help me - considering that also when I feel less "bruised")

What medical specialists and exams do you recommend I seek for the above bone issues? Would like this before I do Chiropratic.
Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Blood tests

Detailed Answer:
Hi there

Thanks for the query

Usually hip and spine show changes of osteopenia and Osteoporosis earlier than the leg bones.

You can get your routine blood tests like CBC, ESR, CRP to begin with. These will help rule out inflammation in your body before you start Chiropractic therapy. Also get Serum Calcium, phosphorous, Vitamin D3, Alkaline phosphatase levels in your blood tested.

As for the speciality, a follow-up with an Orthopedician will be appropriate at this moment.

Take calcium and Vitamin D, Vitamin C supplements.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available to answer your follow up queries.

Thank you for your response.

1. So my leg DEXA resulted in Osteopenia - I would say then that it is a more progressed osteopenia, being it shows in the leg?

2. Would an Orthopedic Dr order those tests do you know? - I have no insurance, I'm trying to budget.

3. I guess an Orthopedic Dr would be more experienced in reading bone xrays than a Rheumatologist when it comes to density and such?

4. Which would be the best diagnostic tool to see anything wrong with ligaments and muscle? CT Scans or MRI's? or other? I'm concerned about broken bones and disks too.

5. If this happened to your mother - what would you personally have her do?

Thank you.

Answers to your questions

Detailed Answer:
An Orthopaedic surgeon can gauge your bone quality by looking at your leg Xray as well and can comment on osteopenia. DEXA Scan is most accurate in this setting to diagnose osteopenia and osteoporosis.

The best investigation for muscles and movements is MRI scan.

I would recommend the tests mentioned in my previous conversation to you even for my own mother. They will help rule out other diseases that cause osteopenia so that we can focus on treating the cause as well.

Thank you for your replies!

I have another question that appears unrelated.
I just had a discussion with someone who said to me that the medical "officials" (whoever they are) had declared decades ago that diseases can only be LEGALLY treated or cured with synthetic drugs... that not even food or plants can be claimed to treat or cure any disease.

Would you know what specific decree, legislation, document, etc., was what made this declaration legal? ... if not.... where, whom, if you were me and seriously wanted to find this out, would you inquire to obtain these documents? As a patient who entrusts my body and health to official "strangers", I would really like to know about this.
Thank you.

Answer

Detailed Answer:
Usually Allopathic practice of medicine entails the western system of medicine. Allopathy does not include treating with plants, which comes under Ayurveda and Naturopathy.

Do consult your Healthcare provider and ask him/her if they have a valid degree to practice western medicine of Allopathy. The documents should include MBBS or MBBCh as the primary degree and an MD or MS as secondary post graduate degree.

If they possess the same, them they are valid practitioners to treat you.

I believe you have misinterpreted my inquiry or have misunderstood.

I know doctors are degreed and board certified and licensed in the US.
That was not my concern.

My question is whether you know or can direct me to where this can be answered ( and I ask because if anyone would know that would be a medical doctor because he takes his education and orders from the same):

Do you know who, or what office, or law or legislation ordered the conventional medical field and you as a physician that you can only treat disease with synthetics and that no plant or food can be claimed as "treating or curing disease"? When and who/what implemented this order in the history of conventional (western and now global) medicine? Do you know your conventional medicine's history?

Medical Council

The rules are set by by Medical council in your region. Western medicine has originated from the UK so that GMC has set the rules first.
