Suggest Treatment For Osteoporosis While Having Excessive Spinal Curvature

default
Posted on Fri, 23 Dec 2016
Question: I am a male aged 66. At a recent doctor's visit he commented about excessive spinal curvature, upper back area, dx probable kyphosis. I have had lower back problems before resulting in stenosis and some disc bulging, but have always worked through them. I am not in severe pain. I do notice however that my neck area is not aligned properly with the remainder of my body and I am 'round shouldered'. My physician has recommended a bone density test which I will follow up on. I would like some suggestions on improving this condition, I am working on improving posture. Can the condition be reversed? Appreciate your input

Brief Answer:
May be reversed to some extent with Balloon Kyphoplasty

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.

Thanks for the query.

You seem to have weak bones due to Osteoporosis such has caused compression fractures of the spine bones leading to a round back deformity.

It would be wise to get a DEXA Bone scan to assess the severity of Osteoporosis. To take Calcium and Vitamin D supplements.

Wear a Knight XXXXXXX back brace to prevent higher risk of further fractures. Avoid weight lifting, running or jumping.

This condition can be treated by injecting bone cement into a balloon inside the compressed bones to bring them back to bread normal thickness. This can reverse it to some extent. This procedure is called Balloon Kyphoplasty.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available to answer your follow up queries.
