Suggest Treatment For Overdose Of Xarelto

default
Posted on Tue, 24 Nov 2015
Question: I took an overdose of xarelto almost 3 weeks ago. I took about 40 of the 20mg tablets. Not a suicide attempt since I knew it was not likely to kill me. Since that time I have had severe joint, muscle and general severe body pain. No bleeding. I often feel like my insides are rotting away.

Brief Answer:
can't say whether it's the drug or not...

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

xarelto is eliminated within 48 hours, so any side effect are not supposed to occur after that time, unless a more permanent damage has been inflicted. Most of xarelto's side effect are related to bleeding either directly or indirectly. There are various side effects though and since you've taken a huge dose, you should undertake a thorough medical examination and lab testing to detect signs of potential damage.

For example, xarelto may cause bleeding inside the joints, which would cause severe joint pain but I couldn't possibly know whether you do have this kind of problem. A doctor can identify signs of various disorders by examining you.

Besides clinical examination a general biochemical panel testing and a complete blood count would be appropriate to exclude various problems. I would include at least the following:
- complete blood count
- renal tests (urine, creatinine)
- liver tests (alt, ast, alp, g-gt)
- glucose
- muscular problems (cpk)
- urinalysis

If your doctor suspects internal organ bleeding, radiological tests might be ordered. The bleeding could be suspected on the grounds of either clinical examination or lab testing.

I hope you find my comments helpful!
