Suggest Treatment For Pain After Defecating Something Stuck In Rectum

Posted on Tue, 1 Sep 2015
Question: Hi.. I think I swallowed fish or chicken bone yesterday. Today morning while in the toilet I felt something sharp moving in my rectus which was followed by pain. I tried to feel it with my finger and found something stuck in my anus. I managed to take it out somehow. I didn't feel it was that hard or sharp to cause me such pain. Now I'm experiencing severe pain from my anus. I bought a laxative and lignocaine topical cream. Started with antibiotics too. The pain doesn't seem to respond well to anaesthetic. But the overall pain has reduced like 10% in 8 hours. Is this treatment enough or should I go to a doc

Brief Answer:
As explained, take treatment till complete cure.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query and an elucidate history.
Read and understood that there was a possibility of you swallowing fish or chicken bone yesterday, felt something sharp in rectum - followed by pain - you could take it out but it was not that sharp or hard - used laxative, lignocaine topical and antibiotic - only 10 % relief in 8 hours - wants to know whether this treatment is sufficient or to go to a Doctor...

From your elucidate history this looks to be a classical fissure in ano. The lignocaine topical, and laxatives is fine, please continue it.
May I please know which antibiotic and in which dose are you taking it.

Additional treatment:
Sitz bath in a tub with warm water will sooth the area well , do this at least twice daily.
Oral anti-inflammatory medicine with painkiller property like Ibuprofen in full dose (as per your weight and if it suits you).
Metronidazole
Pre and probiotics.
Full normal diet as before (avoid any foods or beverages if you know that they cause constipation)
And the most important point you asked for: Yes it is better be seen by a Doctor and preferably a General Surgeon. He shall examine the area externally to confirm whether there is a fissure or not. Request him to avoid per-rectal digital ad proctoscopy examination as tit increases pain and to conduct at a later date at an appropriate time.
And to get a proper prescription and have a proper follow-up.

I hope this answer helps you to get a proper diagnosis, and get a proper further treatment. Please feel free to ask for more or if you need further clarifications or if you feel there is a gap of communication.

thank you doctor for the reply. I managed to defecate half an hour ago. I think the piece of bone which was left there came out. there is substantial decrease in pain. now I feel only slight pain which is not at all bothering me. what should I do now

Brief Answer:
Same treatment please.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your feedback.
The treatment still remains the same as the feces have loads of bacteria and chances of infection are always there.
The injury caused by the bone is also a fissure, hence the same line of treatment.
