Question: I am 27 years old, male, 6'2 215lbs. I have a desk job and I have noticed that over the last month my left foot tends to swell whenever I sit down. It happens at my desk, in my 4runner, wherever really. Since the time I was 18 I have always been in peak condition but over the last year (since taking this job) I have went from 180lbs to 215lbs....what is going on with the swelling? And does the weight gain have to do with it?

Brief Answer:
As detailed below.

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted your history in details and understood the concerns.
Since the swelling occurs only when you are seated, the probable reasons are:
Incompetent venous valves allowing the edema at food.
Lymphatic cause.
This can be confirmed by the following:
Clinical evaluation, examination and investigations like ultrasound with venous color doppler of the left lower limb.
Please get these done.
If the swelling is of the whole foot including the toes, this is probably of venous origin. It will go away once you lye down and elevate the leg above the heart level.
If the swelling is of the foot but the toes are spared - means not affected, this is classical of lymphatic origin.

Hence please get the diagnosis by clinical evaluation, examination and investigations as said above so that the specific cause can be found and treated.
Weight gains is not usually the cause of edema in one foot.

I hope this answers your query, please feel free to ask for further relevant queries if you feel that there is a gap of communication.

Please give feedback after investigations.
