Question: I am a slim 27 year old female who recently gave birth 6 months ago, while pregnant I had two echo's because I had SVT and shortness of breath.
I have a long history of asthma and I am currently on Flovent and ventolin for the same. Lately I feel tight and have pain in my throat along with feeling as though I can't get a whole breath in. My inhalers do help but only temporarily.. Suggests? Ideas as to what could be going on?

Hi,

Thanks for your query.

Since when do you have the pain in throat ?
Do you get fever ?
Is the obstruction to air flow in the throat or in the lungs too ?
Do the inhalers alleviate pain in the throat ?

No fever, it doesnt seem as if its a virus or bacterial infection as the only other sumptom is a slightly runny nose and i do have multiple environmental allergies. I think the obstruction is only in the throat, i am able to get a full breathe its just painful. The inhalers dont allieviate the pain in the throat juat helps to get a full breathe in. The pain is occasionally accompanied worh sharp pain in my right shoulder which feels pluretic

Brief Answer:
Side effects of the inhalers

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for writing back.

Sorry for my delayed response.

Sore throat or pain in the throat is one of the common side effects in both the Flovent and Ventolin inhalers. This is a result of dryness that occurs due to vascular changes brought about by both the drugs. The effect will be double due to synergy of the effect by both drugs.

I suggest you to take steam inhalation every 6 hours once with eucalyptus in it for a minimum of a week. This can alleviate the pain and discomfort in the throat.

Hope, I answered your query.

Wish you good health.

Regards,
