Suggest Treatment For Pain And Wound Exudate Post Colon Cancer Surgery
My elder brother aged around 56 years has Chrons disease and is living in XXXXXXX He got operated 3 years back and during operation it was found that he had colon cancer too and was treated accordingly. Since last 2 weeks he has been having pain in stomach and the doctor has said there are some stitches that were swollen in his intestine. So he has been on liquids only and even liquid is also not passing through very freely because of these stiches. I am planning to call him to USA. I would like to know the treatments and the cost of the treatement available here ? Is operation to remove those stiches mandatory or those stitches can be opened through medicines ?
Thanks,
XXXX
Will require a Colonoscopy and CECT abdomen.
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX.
Do you have details of the Surgery done initially. Most likely a removal of the cancer containing part of the Colon and an anastomosis or rejoining of healthy ends must be done. If they say that the stitches are causing problems would mean that there is some problem where the two ends have been joint. But it is unlikely due to any Surgical error that there should be an anastomotic issue after so long. What is possible is that the disease might have progressed. This can be investigated by a Colonoscopy and a CECT of the abdomen and Pelvis. He needs to see a Surgical Oncologist with the reports.
I can comment on the requirement of the surgery only after I know what is exactly happening with the anastomosed bowel.
I dont know about the treatment facilities and cost in the US but I do know that there are many good Oncosurgeons who can deal with this problem.
You can also visit this link to find out if there are any doctors in your vicinity to treat such a problem

But the line of treatment would be as outlined above.
