Suggest Treatment For Pain At Incision Site After Colostomy

default
Posted on Tue, 5 Jan 2016
Question: I had an emergency colostomy from diverticulitus in 2003. Then the colostomy take down 6 months later. I have been treated by a pain doctor with 10/325 Hydrocodone ever since. I have a hodge podge of pain all around the surgery site and I need this med. to keep me working. Now that the schedule changed, my pain doctor is cutting me loose and wants to pass the problem on to a new G.I. doctor. I am 62 years old and I am not getting anymore surgery. By the way, my father had this as well as my brother and they are having no issues getting their pain medication at all. Their doctors are very far away and not easy for me to see
them. Is there a specific doctor I should seek out in my area and can I expect to have trouble getting this
medication that has overwhelmingly help me over the past 12 years? Why are doctors just kicking this type of problem to the door? Thank you for any help you can provide.

Is there a pain doctor or any doctor in my area of North San XXXXXXX Bonsall, CA that could help me. A doctor familiar with my condition of a Colostomy from Diverticulitus after the surgery. I have pain all the time as well as my Father, Brother and myself who all had the exact same surgery. They are able to get hydrocodone with no issues. I am have a real hard time finding anyone who will write the script on a monthly basis. I am willing to pay and visit the doctor on a monthly basis as well.

Brief Answer:
meet colorectal surgeon for pain management.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome at HCM
I have gone through your query and being your physician I completely understand your health concerns....
As far as pain medications are concerned , these have to be changed according to the patient response. If a pain has decreased then there is really need to decrease the dose or replace the drug with less potent one. Generally after surgery one needs stronger agents as you have used but as time passes it is always wise to switch to other agents to prevent dependence.
In response to your query, if you are really concerned with pain then you can visit Colorectal surgeon . He is the one who completely understand your procedure and will advise most appropriate painkiller in your context.
Lastly, it is not wise to get prescription of oxycodone on your own wish , it is your attending doctor who will decide.
Hope it helps and meet colorectal surgeon
