Suggest Treatment For Pain Caused By Lump Near Clavicle Bone
He hurt his shoulder about 6 months ago trying to lift himself out of a bathtub and felt like he tore a muscle then. He had an xray at that time and they said arthritis on bone (which we'd never heard of). The lump has gotten a bit larger and he is going in for a scan soon. We are very worried. He is a cancer survivor - prostate cancer five years ago. The lump is slightly above clavicle on left side and not painful.
AC joint arthritis. Needs further workup, medication, precautions
Detailed Answer:
Hi there.
Thanks for the query.
There is a condition called Acromioclavicular arthritis where the joint between the Clavicle and the Acromion prices of the scapula bones can get degenerated and cause arthritis.
This can cause a bump or protrusion at the outer aspect of the clavicle region on the shoulder.
The treatment depends on the grade of arthritis. Initially, applying hot packs, avoiding overhead activities, lifting weights and pain killers would suffice. In later stages, Joint debridement or excision can be considered to clear the damaged joint by either arthroscopic or key hole surgery or open surgery.
It would be best to get an Xray of the involved region and upload for my reference, so that I can guide you to the right treatment protocol for your husband. An Xray of the involved shoulder in AP and Zanca position views may be done for proper visualisation of the joint.
I hope I have answered your query.
I will be available to answer your follow up queries.

Sternoclavicular joint
Detailed Answer:
Yes. That could indicate the Sternoclavicular joint. Kindly upload a photo of the lump if possible for a clearer picture. Do get an Xray of the region as well to rule out bony lesions.
