Question: Hi I am 59, female with fybromyagia. I work part time. Currently, I take Cymbalta 60 mg and Lyrica 300 mg. I am still in constant pain and would like to treat the pain instead of the disorder. I need relief so I can live a more normal life and do simply things like clean, work and enjoy my grandchildren. What would you recommend?

Brief Answer:
These medications are for the pain!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about the difficulties you have getting the pain for fibromyalgia well controlled. The exact cause of fibromyalgia has not been identified and treatment is geared towards controlling the pain to enable you lead a normal life. Routine pain medications are not very effective towards this. Cymbalta and Lyrica(anti depressants) are better at controlling these symptoms and this is th exact reason why your doctors have gotten you on these medications. They are better than the classical and even most potent routine pain medications.

Because your symptoms are not well controlled, I will suggest that you talk to your treating doctors to get your treatment evaluated and adjusted. You may need higher doses, different drug combinations, etc to attain this goal. Only multiple trial can identify what drug and/or combination that works best for you. There is no single medication when it comes to pain management that works same for all clients.

In all, your treatment is well adapted for your condition. Review and adjustments may be helpful.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thank you so much for using our services and feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
