Suggest Treatment For Pain From Spider Bite On Wrist

Posted on Thu, 25 Sep 2014
Question: I got bit by a spider on right wrist at the base if my thumb 3 weeks ago. From my thumb up through the middle of my forearm has been and continues to be very painful. My physical therapist friend seems to think its tendinitis. Could that be related to the bite?

Brief Answer:
An orthopediac assessment required.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query on HealthcareMagic.

Some spider bites are poisonous and can lead to pain, redness and burning sensation at the site of bite.
The reaction to spider or insect bite is usually immediate and it is unlikely for the reaction to occur after a period of 3 weeks.

Was the bite followed by pain, redness or any other sensation?
If yes, then the bite is most likely cause of the symptoms.
However, if the symptoms developed late then other causes have to be sought.
Inflammation of tendon or tendinitis is associated with pain in the region of the tendon.
Tendons in the forearm are located in the wrist and in the forearm.

I suggest you to consult an orthopedician for clinical assessment.
In case the pain is due to tendinitis as suspected by your primary healthcare provider, the diagnosis has to be confirmed.

If you have more queries, I will be glad to answer.
