Posted on Thu, 4 Feb 2016
Question: I have had a painful issue near my groin and hip flexor area for a couple months now. PT says it could be a strain, but i have done stretching and strenghtening exercises for both the groin and hip flexor for about 5 weeks now and have seen little improvement. The pain occurs when i sit up, sneeze, contract the abs, do any sort of physical activity (soccer, running) it started as a groin pain and moved up. I do alot of training, im a soccer player and i do weight lifting. I have cut off all physical activity for about 5 weeks now and still have this pain. Please help. I have attached an image of where the exact pain is.
Thank you.

Brief Answer:
torn abdominal muscle

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns

I am sorry to hear that you have pain along your abdominal wall. The area that you are pointing to is not low enough to be an inguinal hernia or a hip flexor muscle. You are pointing to an area that is related to the abdominal rectus muscles and it sounds like you tore your muscles. Sometimes there can even be a small internal hernia. The best thing to get is an MRI fo the abdominal wall but I doubt any doctor or insurance will approve of the MRI. This are benign and will usually resolve if left alone.

In summary
1. abdominal rectus muscle tear
2. Possible abdominal rectus muscle hernia
3. Rest and time
4. MRI if approved by insurance and MD

I hope I answered your question. Please contact us again if you have any additional questions.

Update: I took a visit to the hospital a few weeks ago and was done some lab test including an ultrasound and was ruled out of a hernia.

Thank so much...is there anything i can do to help heal the muscle??

One more question:

How long do you think it could take to heal on average? Cutting off all physical activity.
