Question: Hello, On 1978 Symphysis Pubis was separated when giving birth. I eventually had an operation that tightened my tummy muscles (the same procedure as with a "tummy tuck") . . this gave me a better support for the area and even though still acutely tender to touch the pubic area it lessened the pain for me. Now (approximately 34 years later) I've had a fall and in doing so my legs did 'the splits' Now my right side pubic area through into back hip area and lower back are giving me tremendous pain. What is your suggestion please.

Thanks for your query.

I'm Dr. Sudhir Kumar,

After going through your query I concluded that you has old separation of symphysis pubis before 34years. Now you got a fresh fall in which your legs did the splits. Now your right pubic area, back of hip and lower back are having tremendous pain.

Treatment of it rest and analgesic such as ibuprofen. If pain is not relieved by ibuprofen then strong analgesic such as tramadol can be taken considering it as soft tissue injury. Vitamin B and C are helpful in recovery.

You can get x ray of pelvis both hip with pelvis AP view to rule out fracture of pubic(pelvis) and hip. X Ray lumbar spine may be done to rule out lumbar spine fracture. You can discuss with your treating Doctor about it.
