Question : My mother is 72 years old, has post menopausal bleeding--pain in lower abdomen, back and legs, and is sweating profusely.. She has gone for a transvaginal ultrasound and had a biopsy on uterine lining which came back benign. results from ultrasound are that they found a mass on left ovary. She has to go for a CatScan. What can be causing the excessive sweating?

                                    Brief Answer:
Thyroid hormone levels and ECG advised
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, thanks for trusting health care magic.
I understand your anxiety related to the issue.
Sweating at her age is usually not related to menopause because by this time body gets habituated with the low hormone status.
So get her thyroid hormone levels tested along with an ECG and in case both come out to be normal then her hormone profile needs to be done to rule out active ovarian mass.
But first get her CT scan and thyroid hormone and ECG done.
You can discuss the report with me anytime on health care magic.
All the best.

My mother has a slow thyroid which is being controlled by medication so I don't believe that that is the cause. Can tumours or cancer cause excessive sweating?

                                    Brief Answer:
Yes can cause sweating
Detailed Answer:
Yes dear certain tumors secrete hormones or hormone components like serotonin and even thyroid hormone like substances so can cause sweating.
That is why I want her repeat thyroid levels along with CT scan.
Take care
