Suggest Treatment For Pain In The Ankle

Posted on Sat, 9 Jul 2016
Question: I broke my ankle on the outer bone and sprained my whole foot really bad awhile back. At first I thought it was just a sprain and then I walked on it 2 weeks later and felt something give. I was then not putting pressure on it but walking on crutches. Then about 2 weeks later I fell and jammed the knee on that same leg into the tile floor. After another week I was concerned because then when I would try to take a shower even though I was sitting and not standing it would swell and get dark pink but each time got better. I was concerned though and finally went to the med clinic and they x-rayed and said it was broke and severely sprained. They told me to just keep staying off of it putting no pressure on it at all. They gave me a boot. He said no pressure on it at all for 4 weeks. I did that faithfully. Then when I took the boot off it was very sore which I expected since it had been immobile for so long. I am putting pressure on it now but there is a spot under my ankle bone that hurt when I walk and I cannot walk without crutches relieving some pressure. I think it is getting better but I felt by now I should be able to walk on it. I stretch my foot and work it constantly. There is no pain except when I try to walk with my full weight on it. I don't know if I should go back or just keep doing what I am doing.

Brief Answer:
Can be due to post traumatic stiffness.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The pain that you are having can be due to post traumatic stiffness. It usually decreased in 2 weeks with regular exercise and hot compress. In case the pain is severe or the swelling is increasing or the pain and stiffness are persistent then do get it examined by your orthopedician.
I hope this answers your query.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.
Wishing you good health.
