Suggest Treatment For Pain In The Penis When Diagnosed With An IBS

Posted on Wed, 5 Apr 2017
Question: Hello, I believe I have IBS. Last week while having a bowel movement I was pushing extra hard because I felt like it wasn't fully finished. After that I got what I believed to be hemmorhoids, which made it very uncomfortable to sit or walk . It made me feel like I constantly had to poop. A day after that I noticed a pinching pain in my penis near the head when I urinate. I have to somewhat go more often . I wanted to know if this is because of a UTI or would the IBS / Hemmoroids be causing this ? Thank you.

Brief Answer:
All three can be possibilities investigations can rule them.

Detailed Answer:
.Hard, compacted stools that are difficult or painful to pass. Straining during bowel movements causes inceased blood flow into the mucosa causing swelling of veins in internal hemorrhoids causing busting of vein leading to bleeding and pain.
As per your query it can be UTI constant urge to defecate or pain radiating to tip of penis can be caused due to infected urine or stones in kidney.I would suggest you to go for tests-
Urine routine and microscopy to rule out uti.
USG abdomen and kUB to rule out kidney stones.
A digital rectal examination of rectum should be done to rule out piles.
urine routine and microscopy to rule iut infection.

lactulose 10ml should be taken once daily at night to make stools loose which assists its easy passing.

Thank you Dr. XXXXXXX for your very timely response. Do you think i should wait for the hemmoroids to clear up to see if the pain in the penis will go away before scheduling a visit with a PCP?

Brief Answer:
Follow up advice.

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
I dont feel that would be a good advice.w should try to rule out the cause of problem actively rather then just waiting for thibg to show up abd settle down on their own.
Two tests that should minimally be done are-
USG kub(to rule out kidney stones)
Proctoscopic rectal examination- To rule out piles.

Regards.
