Suggest Treatment For Pain In The Upper Body Area And Post Nasal Drip

Question: I have some pain in my upper body area (lungs i guess). It came suddenly after eating pizza last night and laying on my stomach in bed. Though other members of family have colds, ive had no symptoms. Breathing is pretty normal, i feel fine otherwise, i sweat a lot. I have post nasal drip.
Brief Answer:
You describe symptoms specific for acid reflux/GERD.
Detailed Answer:
Welcome to HCM. Please note spicy foods, fast foods, large greasy foods, and acid containing foods will exacerbate acid reflux. Please know that it is also important to note that you should not eat within 2 hours of going to bed. You will need a proton pump inhibitor like omeprazole to control this. The postnasal drip could be aggravated or a direct cause from acid reflux that comes up at night causing irritation to your oropharyngeal. I hope this helps. Good luck.

How long does it last? Lungs still feel full for the last 3 days. I haven't yet gotten a proton pump inhibitor.
Brief Answer:
It will hurt for as long as you don't treated it, you need PPI treatment.
Detailed Answer:
lease remember that acid reflux results in actual physical burns/tears/abrasions of your esophagus. This is similar to a wound. What tends to happen is you keep having acid on this wound that's already opened. As you may imagine this continues to be painful. The proton pump inhibitor stops/reduces acid formation and allows the wounds to heal.
As far as your lungs feeling full. If you believe you are at risk for infection, you may need to visit with a doctor. This is because somebody has to listen to your lungs with the stethoscope. A chest x-ray may also further reveal whether you have a pneumonia just an upper respiratory infection or bronchitis.
Again without treating the acid reflux, the symptoms may not go away. In the interim, as we had discussed, you need to avoid spicy large meals especially before going to bed at night.

Thanks. I think I need to see a doctor about getting omeprazole. They're not available over-the-counter in Canada. Unfortunately, it's thanksgiving holiday. Will Zantac work temporarily until I get see a doctor? Thanks for all your help.
Brief Answer:
Yes, you can also try some TUMS, which should relieve your symptoms..
Detailed Answer:
You are welcome, but please see a doctor for deifinitive treatment, remember also that at your are, you need to be tested for H.Pylori, this may co-exist with acid reflux or present in a smilar fashion, bottom line is that you need to see a doctor who can perform the appropriate workup.
