Question : I am having pain in the left and right sides of my neck, I think it is near the carotid, it started like a cramp, but next day is now sore (feels like its bruised) and the veins are extended and visible. I have been getting a lot of headaches, and my father died from a blocked carotid, what should I do?

I would like to know what kind of Dr. I should schedule an appointment with for a consultation, Vascular Surgeon?

Yes, the possibility of a carotid disease is very high in your case, considering your symptoms and family history.

It's very important , that you get a Carotid Doppler scan along with an MR angiogram of the brain.

Further management if any(therapeutic stenting) can be carried out, based on test results.

Can you let me know what type of physician would be best for me to contact for further management, would a vascular physician be one who could do the scan?

I had a carotid scan about 15 years ago, the results showed no blockage, so maybe I need to get another one now?
