Suggest Treatment For Pain Under Rids While Having Severe Cough
Question: I had a bad cough and experienced pain under my ribs. I then further strained the area when i put my sleeping 3 year old son in his bed. My muscles are now rigid although the intense pain has gone with over the counter pain killers, ice and heat. Any advice on how long it will be until my muscles loosen or what else I can do to speed recovery
Brief answer....may take 10-14 days for complete recovery.

Hello,
Thanks for the query.
I have read your query and understand your concern.
It is a very usual and common problem where you get muscle strain due to excessive coughing. the unusual treatment is pain killers and ice and heat which you are doing regularly. Nothing else is to be done. The only thing is it takes 10-14 days for muscle injuries to completely heal. Sometimes may take even 3 weeks for complete healing if the problem is severe. Just be patient and you would be all right soon.
I hope it helps, however you are most welcome to revert to me for any further query.
Best of luck
Thanks

the second strain when I lowered my soon into bed and felt immediate and severe pain happened March 28 -so more than 2 weeks
the pain is definitely easing - is it normal for the abdominal muscles in the centre just below ribs to still be quite rigid and hard?
Is that just part of the healing process

Hello,
Yes it is normal for those abdominal muscles to be hard and rigid due to muscle strain because whenever internal injuries in muscles take place there is some bleeding there making those muscles hard.
As the muscles heal and as the leaked blood gets absorbed,it may remain hard but eventually heals in around three weeks time.
