Suggest Treatment For Painful Sore Throat
Question: Thanks, my sister began complaining of a painful sore throat Thurs night. It continues thru Fri and today it's much worse. She has a rash in her mouth, her gums are swollen as are her glands. She can't eat or drink at all.

Since your sister has developed severe symptoms of throat infection presenting with rashes and swollen glands, it suggests a bacterial throat infection along with inflammed tonsils.
Kindly consult a Ent doctor or a physician as it needs immediate treatment involving:
1. Broad spectrum antibiotics like (Amoxycillin- potassium 875 mg / 125 mg )(Brand name- AMOX/K CLAV 875mg in united states)- Twice daily for seven days (provided she is not allergic to this group of medications).
2. Antihistamines (available over the counter)- Tablet Cetirizine Hydrochloride 10mg daily once at night for 7 days.
3. Tablet Acetaminopen(over the counter) 500mg every 8th hourly till fever persists.
Antibiotics are prescription drugs hence require consultation of a physician.
Make sure she takes semi solid food so that the difficulty in swallowing can be reduced.
Warm salt water gargle / POVIDONE-IODINE (betadine) mouth gargle is useful.
Also donot let her get dehydrated and keep giving her plenty of fluids .
