Suggest Treatment For Painless Lump In The Groin Area
Question: I have a painless groin mass. It is hard and oblong. My fingers slide over it as though fixated at the bottom and unattached elsewhere. I noticed it last week while showering. I am overweight so that's no indication of how long it's been there. For the last few months, I have developed petechiae on various parts of my body and experienced excessive fatigue, chills and leg pain. Over the past 6 weeks, I've had occasional, spontaneous spasms in my hips. I'm 33, Caucasian female. I like to avoid seeing my physician if not completely necessary. So... my question is: What's the likelihood my symptoms are the result of a serious medical condition?

While I can't give you a percentage of the likelihood this is something concerning, I can say with absolute certainty that any mass in a lymphatic chain such as the groin, that doesn't have an obvious reason for being there, such as being due to a regional infection (for example swollen glands in throat with strep throat infection) should be evaluated.
I can understand not wanting to go in to the doctor - I avoid doing so myself! But there is no way to know what this solitary mass is without evaluation. So please, go in promptly.
It is hard to say whether the constitutional symptoms you are having (chills, fatigue) are related to the mass without knowing first what the nature of the mass is.
Sometimes there can be benign growths, but a mass such as you described must always be checked out.
Make sure also to have a CBC with manual differential; and also thyroid studies (as part of an eval for the fatigue and being overweight).
