MRI is the better option along with clinical examination
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Thanks for your specific query.
MRI will be obviously the best option, X-ray may not show many of the swellings.
MRI in addition to the clinical / physical examination diagnosis by the Doctor / Surgeon will give you the perfect diagnosis to give an idea for the further management.
I hope this answer helps you, please feel free if you have further queries.

Is this a matter requiring urgent attention? XXXXXXX
Brief Answer:
ASAP
Detailed Answer:
Development / finding of a painless lump of the size of 5 cm just about 3 weeks ago, which is situated at 8 cm above the medial malleolus must be investigated.
MRI is always to be done as an adjunct to the Clinical examination by a Surgeon.
I think this needs an urgent attention, at least as soon as possible (ASAP) for the reason of correct diagnosis.
