Suggest Treatment For Pancreatitis And Pain
Question: I am a 68 year old Male. I have RA (30 years) I have recently been diagnosed with Pancreatitis probably related to meds taken over the last 30 years. CT Scan showed Acute at the time and chronic pancreatitis, since that diagnosis I have maintained a fat free diet and have improved over all but still have some pain and other symptoms. I am taking orencia , methothexate .4 ml 1x weekly diclofenac 50 mg 3 x daily. Recent Labs show normal liver function numbers but my stools are very pale. About a year ago I had liver function problems and at that time with pale stools dark urine and labs that indicated liver function problems. Is it reasonable to assume that the pale stools are related to the Pancreatitis since my labs are showing normal liver function?
Brief Answer:
Pancreatitis causes pale stools
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query
Pain is a constant problem in most patients with pancreatitis and it usually settles with opiod analgesics. I must add here Diclofenac 3 times a day is a very high dose of analgesic, please be cautious of analgesic induced kidney damage. Approach your treating doctor with my suggestion of switching you over to a safer analgesic.
Pale stools are often associated with pancreatitis, if your liver function is normal then you dont need to worry about your liver being involved. However please get a ultrasound abdomen done to rule out gallstones.
I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back to me
