Question: A young male with h/o Pancreatitis and Pancreatic cyst and spleenectomy done .
Ned to know if Spleen removal was called for in view of complication of Pancreatits and was directly related to it .Documents uploaded .

Hi.
Thanks for your query, albeit short and very specific.
The spleen needs to be removed for the following reasons:
- as the old reports show, splenic vein was chronically thrombosed with development of multiple peri-gastric collaterals.
- due to the inflammatory process around the distal pancreas, there are adhesion with the splenic hilum which may be impossible to separate and save the spleen and hence it may be imperative to do splenectomy. This is usually on the spot / on-table decision as seen on exploring the abdomen.
