default
Posted on Sat, 30 Jul 2016
Question: I have been diagnosed as Peripheral Neuropathy in both feet and legs. Proposed treatment: radio frequency ablation. I am concerned that this might not be an effective treatment for my numbness and tingling. Your opinion please. Is there another alternative?

Peripheral Neuropathy treatment plan is given below

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Welcome to HealthCareMagic.com I am Dr.J XXXXXXX Anto Bruno Mascarenhas, and I am here to help you. I have read your question with care and understand your concerns.

Treatment of Peripheral Neuropathy mostly involves
1. Documenting the Level and Extend of Neuropathy : by Clinical Examination and Nerve Conduction Studies
2. Finding the cause of Neuropathy (e.g. diabetes)
3. Treating the Cause of Neuropathy
4. Treating the Neuropathic Pain
5. Vitamins and Other Supplements for Nerve Regeneration

I am not sure why RF Ablation was prescribed for you

Hope you found the answer helpful.

To date, I have had nerve conduction study ,ABI, ultrasound (by Vascular Doctor; and EMG by a neurologist who diagnosed Peripheral Neuropathy of both legs and told me I also had a back problem?? Still scheduled for MRI soon. The vascular doctor is the one who has scheduled a Radio Frequency Ablation. my question: Because I have NO PAIN, just stiffness and numbness, I am wondering why the RFA is scheduled. Everything I had researched tells me the RFA is treatment for PAIN, not stiffness and numbness??? I have pre-diabetes not diabetes. Blood sugar runs from 98 to XXXXXXX 140.

Brief Answer:
RFA probably for Vascular Problems

Detailed Answer:
Dear Madam

Welcome Back

You have mentioned that the vascular doctor is the one who has scheduled a Radio Frequency Ablation.

It is highly likely that you have some other problem with veins (probably varicose veins) and the RFA has been scheduled for that
