default
Posted on Wed, 25 Mar 2015
Question: My daughter is 4 yr old and is having PAS(Pulmonary Artery Stenosis) problem by birth. she is frequently affected with cold ,cough ,fever and infections. I would like to know if PAS has impact on her health conditions.

FYI: % of blockage is 55% and doctor suggested only if it reaches to 70% ballooning has to be done.

Brief Answer:
long term prognosis is not worse.

Detailed Answer:
hello,
welcome to HCM
i appreciate your concern over your daughter.
peripheral pulmonary stenosis cause is decrease in the radius of the lumen of pulmonary artery.
so there is reduced blood flow to lung and increase back pressure to the right side of heart.
the main symptoms are-
Episodes of pain in the chest causing difficulty breathing
Low energy
Poor feeding
Rapid breathing
Tiring early with exercise
Turning blue, a condition called cyanosis.
sometimes associated with some congenital syndrome like NOONAN,COSTELLO XXXXXXX etc.
the prognosis depends upon the severity of blockage.55% in your daughter is a mild degree blockage.the long term prognosis is better here.
symptomatic and lifestyle modification is better here.
stenting is done sometimes depending upon the cardiac condition..for that i need full echocardiogrphy report.
and yes ballooning is done in stenosis greater than 70%.
Hope I have answered your question. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
regards.
