Question: I have been experiencing discomfort and have been taking an anti acid over the counter pill, Ranitidine (I ran out and started using Equate otc) for about 7 months. Usually I need one or two a day. This does not seem to be getting better or getting worse. I am not sure what is causing this. It is worrisome..

Brief Answer:
Omeprazole
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Previously you got relief with Ranitidine.
Since you dont get relief with it anymore you can switch to Proton pump inhibitors like Cap.Omeprazole 40mg Twice daily before food for first 5 days then reduce it to Once daily before breakfast for the next 15days .
If there is loss of appetite, loss of weight, low hemoglobin, discuss with your doctor about getting an Upper GI Endoscopy done.
Feel free to ask any further queries.

Dr.R.K.
