Suggest Treatment For Persistent Acid Reflux And Gastritis
I started to notice a few years ago( maybe longer ago than that) that sometimes when I would have a flare up my urine felt acidic. Sometimes I would feel a slight discomfort or slight irritation, hard to describe because its not very bad at all.
Anyway, it last for a short while, maybe a few days and them it goes away. I don't think about it much because its really not often.
my question is, can high amounts of stomach acid cause some irritation in the bladder or urethra due to acidity?
during these times caffiene may seem irritating too. I have nothing to back that up but do notice that caffiene makes stomach acidity worse.
For the record I've had several endo/ colo scopes( around every 3 years at my request. doctors dont think I need them because ive never showed anything but mild gastritis a few times, most of the time stomach is normal. Ive also had labs and urinalysis done at a minimum of anually. a few times when I have felt this irritation and all was normal.
I feel that there really may be a correlation with stomach acidity and urine given my experiences.
Your thoughts.

Hi and welcome.
There is no such relation. Chloric acid is produce locally by parietal cells of stomach mucosa. Its prediction may be higher if some risk actors are present, such as certain food, medications, stress, genetics, helicobacter infection etc. So this stomach acid is not present in blood so that it can be excreted through kidneys. However, urin emay be more or less acid, and increased urine acidity may be sign of certain urinary and kidneys disorders such as: uroinfection, starvation, diarrhea and uncontrolled diabetes, kidneys stones, glomerulonephritis and some less common. In this case, you should do urine PH analysis and urinoculture to rule these out. Also, you shoul drink plenty of fluids, eat vegetables, and citrus fruits and beans to help decrease the acidity in your urine. Also, diets high in animal protein such as meat and dairy products may cause and increase in acidic urine. AN last, try to urinate when you first feel the urge. Holding urine in the bladder causes a decrease in water content in the urine and makes it more acidic. Wish you good health. Regards
These symptoms have come and gone for years.
They last only a few days, are pretty mild and coincide with reflux flare ups.
I know that there may be no studies that show this but I have talked with several people with more chronic stomach issues that state similar correlation.
Wondered if you have heard this?
Thanks for response.
P.s. My liver, pancreas, kidneys, full wht count were on the last labs that were WNL.

Well, i did not hear for this correlation and there are no scientific evidence for it. However, some risk factors that cause gastritis and gerd may affect kidney function such as stress, smoking, overweight ,some medications. So these factors may cause both gastric acid and urine acidity.
Same with urinalysis. No protein, bacteria or leuk.
These labs were done a few months ago and I've noticed this for years off and on.
Not sure if you saw that.
Also had abd ct few years back and it was neg as well

I mention it because only kidney disorder may lead to acid urine and stomach acid will not cause it alone. but if these findings are fine then you don't need to worry.
