Brief Answer:
you need to get clinically examined and investigated thoroughly ..

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX, Welcome to HCM,
I've gone through your query and understand your concern,

First of all, please note that MONTEK-LC is a prescription drug which is to be taken after getting examined by a Doctor, only if found symptomatic..and it's not going to be effective if you take it infrequently or on pharmacist's advice..

Secondly, it's really been too long, as per your description 3 years have passed by already..and symptom like this needs to be evaluated properly in details..

I'd strongly advice you to get properly examined by ENT specialist without any further delay (deviated nasal septum, chronic sinusitis, allergic rhinitis etc. has to ruled out at first) along with few relevant investigations (CBC, ESR, Absolute Eosinophil count, Nasal swab Gram stain and Culture sensitivity, Chest X-ray, CT-scan of Para nasal sinus etc.)..management will be entirely based on the findings..

Yes, prolonged cold related symptoms and nose blockade can certainly cause loss of smell, but it has to diagnosed at first to know the exact etiology(cause) behind it..

Is there any history of allergy to any particular substance ?
Any past history of childhood asthma ?
Any other problem ?

Please get these necessary things done, meanwhile start taking Steam Inhalation three times daily for the time being, it'll provide some relief..

Please stop smoking (if you do)..

Let me know if there's any further queries, I'll be glad to clarify..

Take Care
Kind Regards

Brief Answer:
follow as already advised..

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX, Welcome back,
Thanks for following up,

Yes it's good to know that there's no history of childhood asthma/ any allergy, in that case the MONTEK-LC which you're taking without any medical supervision will be of no benefit.. but as I've already explained, these persistent symptoms should be evaluated in details, so please get yourself examined clinically by the ENT specialist in the first place ..

As per your descriptions, it's denoting towards chronic Sinusitis, but you need to be properly examined and investigated by the ENT specialist for this..

Continue taking Steam inhalation as already explained, it'll act as decongestant by keeping the secretions diluted..don't swallow the phlegma, try to cough it out..

Start taking Cap PANTOPRAZOLE 40 mg Once Daily in empty stomach 10-15 min prior to breakfast for next 15 days (any underlying acid reflux will be controlled )..

Try to avoid direct exposure to dust/ smokes and over-crowed places..even if you have to go out, try to use face masks and observe how you stay..

Try to avoid excessive cold beverages and dairy products (specially at night time)..

Please stop smoking (if you do)..

Let me know how you stay in the due course..
